Acupuncture has been used within our practice for many years and each physiotherapist has undergone extensive training to meet the requirements of the Acupuncture Association of Chartered Physiotherapists (AACP) and Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP).
Acupuncture may be suggested by your physiotherapist to enhance the effectiveness of your treatment and help reduce pain. Acupuncture stimulates nerve fibres to block out pain signals and helps to reduce the sensitivity of tender points in the body. Acupuncture also stimulates the body to produce endorphins and oxytocin, its own pain and stress-relieving chemicals. It may promote sleep by stimulating the release of melatonin in the body and may encourage a sense of well-being by stimulating the release of serotonin.Read More
Our training is maintained on an annual basis through attendance of courses and in-service training. We have adopted the Western style of acupuncture, in which we believe pain management can be affected by the release of pain inhibitors via the central nervous system. To ensure patient safety, we only use sterile, single-use needles and are registered with Salford Council for acupuncture practice.
